Designer Rugs’ inaugural Evolve Awards invites entries of rug designs from full-time professional architects, interior designers and interior design industry professionals (including industrial, product/object designers, interior stylists, textile designers and interior colour consultants). Six winners will have their rug designs included as part of Designer Rugs’ ID Collection 2010/11 and be in the running for more than $20,000 in prizes including a trip to Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2011.

The judging panel will be comprised of Sibella Court, retailer, internationally renowned interior stylist, author and colour consultan; Shareen Joel, interior architect and industrial designer; Matthew Sheargold, interior designer and product designer; Stephen Ormandy, Co-Director, Dinosaur Designs and artist; and Yosi Tal, Managing Director, Designer Rugs.

Judges will consider submitted designs and rate each on the following:

– Overall concept and originality of design.
– Innovation: Judges will assess if submitted designs bring new concept to finished rugs.
– Commercial viability of the rug design.
– Demonstrated understanding of handmade rug construction.

As part of the Evolve Awards, Designer Rugs will be holding a series of workshops on custom rug design and specifying. Exploring the design and construction process of custom rug and carpet construction. The Evolve Workshops will be held in most capital cities and aim to equip design professionals with technical knowledge and providing advanced specification details to facilitate the design process.

The workshops are open to design professionals working in the interiors sector. As numbers are limited to 50 per workshop, unfortunately students are unable to attend unless employed full time in design practice. To register your interest in participating, click here.

The Australian Interior Design Awards is open for entries. The awards recognise and celebrate interior design excellence in a variety of areas including installation design in exhibitions, trade fairs and temporary installations as well as residential, commercial and public projects.

Any Australian-based design professional may enter, including interior designers, interior decorators, interior architects, architects and all other design professionals.

There are seven primary categories in which designers may enter – retail design, hospitality design, corporate design, public design, installation design, residential design and residential decoration.

Entries are due 12 February 2010.
