Jamfactory Associate Program 2010: Call for applications

An associate at the Jamfactory, Jamfactory: Contemporary Centre for Craft and Design

An associate at the Jamfactory in Adelaide

The Jamfactory’s Associate program, is a two year practical studio based program that provides emerging craftspeople and designer-makers with professional and creative development opportunities unavailable anywhere else in Australia. The Jamfactory is currently accepting applications for their 2010 Associate program.

The Jamfactory is a leading Australian contemporary craft and design centre. Participants in the Jamfactory’s professional development scheme are referred to as associates and work under guidance of experienced creative directors and studio staff. Associate positions are currently available in the ceramics, furniture, glass, and metal studios.

The Associate experience equips craft practitioners with the skills and understanding needed to underpin successful independent practice. Studios provide an environment in which associates explore creative ideas and hone their technical and making skills while acquiring business and marketing expertise necessary to establish financially and culturally viable careers in craft and design.

Associates work alongside peers in developing production ideas and designs, creating one-off and exhibition work and participating in commissions. Participants in the program have access to a full range of studio equipment.

Associates are selected once a year from applicants received from all over Australia and the world. The Jamfactory aims to create studio teams with a strong focus on development of ideas, creativity and making skills. Applicants will typically be high achieving tertiary graduates with visual art or design degrees, or emerging practitioners with demonstrated skills and abilities.

Applications are due Friday 30 October 2009.
