The JUMP National Mentoring Program for Young and Emerging Artists aims to promote excellence in artistic practice across artforms, and facilitate pathways for geographically and culturally diverse artists, in order to identify and champion Australia’s next generation of arts industry leaders.

JUMP supports the career development of artists aged 18-30 who are in the first five years of their professional practice and provides mentoring opportunities with established professionals in the artist’s selected art form. Artists receive funding of up to AU$5,000 for a creative concept, to be realised through a one-on-one relationship with their chosen mentor, and access to a range of professional development, showcasing and networking activities.

Three annual mentorship rounds of up to 10 months duration will be delivered from 2010 to 2012, funded by the Australia Council for the Arts, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body, through the Opportunities for Young and Emerging Artists initiative.

JUMP is managed nationally by Youth Arts Queensland, and will be delivered in 2011 in collaboration with state delivery partners Carclew Youth Arts (SA), Propel Youth Arts (WA),Carriageworks (NSW) and Melbourne Fringe (VIC).

Australia Council – Presentation and Promotion grants

The Australia Council’s Presentation and Promotion grants assist arts organisations to present and promote contemporary Australian craft, design, media and visual arts to audiences in Australia and overseas.

Projects supported by this category must have a public outcome and can include exhibitions, publications and conferences, and support for significant international visitors. Projects should have a rigorous curatorial framework aligned with suitable audience development strategies.

Applications close Wednesday 10 August 2011.

Arts SA: Last minute presentation grants

Arts SA is accepting applications from artists and designers for their last minute presentation funding program. This grant category assists independent artists and groups to respond to significant, unexpected invitations for presentation or exhibition opportunities that arise outside the normal Project grant application cycle.

An applicant must demonstrate how the engagement is a significant opportunity with career development benefits.

Funding may be provided for travel, freight and associated presentation or exhibition costs, but does not include funds for the making of the work. Applicants must identify the resources, promotion and fees being contributed by the presenters. Funding is not available to cover budgetary shortfalls from other funding applications.

Applications are due 29 October 2010. Successful applicants will be notified 23 December 2010.

Arts SA: Individual development funding

Arts SA is accepting grant applications for their individual development funding program. The program supports the professional development of individual, independent artists through master classes and workshops, mentorships, attendance at arts conferences, attachments to arts organisations, undertaking arts residencies, or other activity.

For the purposes of Arts SA funding, visual arts, craft and design is a group of artforms encompassing digital art, painting, drawing, object design, conceptual art, photography, furniture making, post object art, printmaking, textiles and fibre, sculpture, ceramics, installation art, jewellery, public art, curatorial activity, performance art, multi and mixed media, glass, new technologies, electronic art, experimental art, projects incorporating community cultural development practices, ATSI and multicultural visual art, craft and design or new media.

Individual development funding provides up to AUD$3,000 for opportunities within Australia and up to AUD$5,000 for international opportunities.

Applications for the next funding round are due 29 October 2010. Successful applicants will be notified 23 December 2010.
