Australia Council for the Arts: Connections residency program

Through the Connections Residency program, the Australia Council for the Arts supports artists and designers with seed-funding to link with non-arts enterprises, fostering ongoing connections that are productive and profitable for both parties. Artists from all artforms are currently being invited to propose a residency with a non-arts business or industry partner of their choice.

The Connections Residency program supports a range of residency and placement opportunities for artists with non-arts businesses and industries providing up to $30,000.

The program aims to:

– Expand the potential for artists to undertake residencies in non-arts businesses.
– Foster new connections between artists and non-arts business and industry partners
– Support creative residencies that lead to long-term, mutually beneficial and sustainable relationships between artists and non-arts business and industry partners.

Applicants to the program must demonstrate that their residency project is well planned and beneficial to their practice and their non-arts business or industry partner.

Participating non-arts business and industry partners must bring significant cash or in-kind resources to the project, and demonstrate their capacity to provide access to staff, equipment or other facilities necessary to make the residency a success.

Residency placements should be at least six months in duration, although longer-term residencies are eligible provided there is adequate resourcing and support from partners.

If applicants do not have an industry partner already in place and would like assistance in developing a relationship with a non-arts business and industry, the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) is offering to facilitate artist/business partnerships as part of the Connections Residencies program. If you would like more information about this service, please contact your nearest AbaF representative.

Applications are due 7 December 2009. Decisions will be advised March 2010 and residencies may start 1 April 2010.
